What we collect
When you use Circate, we collect:
- Account information: username, email address, password (encrypted)
- Profile information: display name, about text, profile URL
- Content you create: writing, audio files, game submissions
- Usage data: pages visited, features used, timestamps
- Payment information: handled by Stripe (we store only subscription status, not card details)
How we use it
We use your information to:
- Provide and operate Circate's services
- Display your content to other users (when you publish or submit)
- Process payments for Curator subscriptions
- Send essential emails (password resets, account changes, game notifications)
- Improve the service based on how people use it
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes.
Payments and Stripe
Curator subscriptions ($15/month) are processed by Stripe. When you subscribe, Stripe collects and processes your payment information directly. We receive only confirmation of payment status — we never see or store your credit card number.
Stripe's privacy policy applies to all payment processing: stripe.com/privacy
Your content
Content you publish (Weekly items, game submissions) is visible to other users according to Circate's features. Your writing and audio remain yours — we display it, we don't claim ownership of it.
If you delete your account, your content is deleted from our servers. Content that was promoted to the Community Weekly by others may remain attributed to your former username until the weekly resets.
AI and your data
We do not use your content or activity to train AI models.
If that ever changes, we'll let you know. And if we ever build AI tools, they'll be tools for creators — not replacements. Our assumption is that AI can never replace human creativity or reach human creative potential.
Cookies and tracking
We use essential cookies to keep you logged in and remember your preferences. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.
Data retention
We keep your account and content as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data and content within 30 days, except where we're legally required to retain it.
Your rights
You can:
- Access your data through your account settings
- Update or correct your information anytime
- Delete your account and all associated data
- Request a copy of your data by emailing us
California residents have additional rights under CCPA, including the right to know what data we collect and the right to request deletion. We do not sell personal information.
Children's privacy
Circate is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly.
Security
We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS) and secure password storage. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable precautions to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll notify you via email or a notice on the site before the changes take effect.
